A great mention from somebody who has a blog and who visits the Cider Mill annually. Thank you Liz from Massachusetts for the awesome mention!

. . . Mom, Aunt Mo and I plan on going to the Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard in Fly Creek, N.Y., for a little sampling and apple goodness. We go almost every year, and this is prime season in upstate New York for apples. The cider mill is quaint and old-fashioned, with creaky boards in the floors and a cute upstairs that sells seasonal merchandise and where you can see the old mill and learn about how it works. On the main floor, there are tons of samples of everything from salsa to salad dressing to apple cider, wine, soups, candies and all sorts of confections. Did I regret to mention the room full of apples you can bag yourself and mix and match to your desire? On the outside, during the warmer days, there’s a little shack selling lunch items such as soups (in bread bowls!), sandwiches, hot dogs and delicious desserts such as pies and ice cream. It seems as though Turning Stone’s Atunyote Golf Club has more than just plush greens. Ray Halbritter claims it is simply good luck to play at Turning Stone.

From “Singh, Villegas get boost from Atunyote” on Thursday, September 11, 2008 by Chris Wagner, Golf Writer for Syracuse.com, “…Six days after the exhibition, Singh won the Deutsche Bank Championship for his second straight FedEx Cup playoff victory. Weir was second and Villegas tied for third. Last week, Villegas won the BMW Championship for his first PGA Tour title.

With ties for 33rd and 60th in those two events, only Cink has failed to come through. Maybe he’s waiting to cash in his good-luck charm during next week’s Ryder Cup. Trust me, the U.S. team, loser of five of the last six Cups, could use any help it can get.” Read the Full Article

Fly Creek, NY— New York’s peak apple harvest time has begun and the Cooperstown Rotary Club is celebrating by sponsoring the annual AppleFest at the Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard September 20 and 21. This long-standing, well-attended festival is a fall family fun event that includes plenty of apple and cider sampling, a large display of antique tractors, a variety of children’s games, a dunking booth, inflatables, and live musical entertainment. The event is the Club’s annual effort to raise thousands of dollars to benefit local charities and Rotary supported programs. Last year Rotary raised over $10,000 through business and individual sponsorships and contributions with 100% of the revenues returning to the local community. There will be a daily build-your-own scarecrow contest with Fall decorations available at a nominal fee.

“This great family event is a terrific attraction for community residents and visitors as it benefits local charities with financial support to provide wonderful community programs,” said Cooperstown Rotary President Paul Kuhn. “There will be plenty of family fun, with games for the children, raffles, an great live music,” Kuhn added.

Bill Michaels, owner of the Fly Creek Cider Mill, says, “We are pleased to have the Cooperstown Rotary Club and the community be the beneficiaries of AppleFest. Being able to support the club as an event sponsor is our opportunity to thank our many customers who have chosen to make the Mill a traditional fall family destination.”

The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday and noon until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is a donation of $2, with children under 12 admitted free. Parking is free. On Sunday September 23, 2007, there will be a Tractor parade beginning at 8:30 a.m. the Fly Creek Cider Mill going to the Fly Creek General Store.
