Wal-Mart is showing its support for the Pride of New York program and the bounty of the harvest season through as one-week display of foods grown locally in New York. From now until September 22, 2008 Wal-Marts in New York will display local produce and products which will also include promotional material supporting the Pride of New York.

A Wal-Mart spokesperson commented that Wal-Mart has always supported buy local campaigns and that this is not just a short term project.

From the New York Ag Connetion Website: “For the seventh year in a row, Wal-Mart supercenters in the State of New York will showcase fresh farm produce grown by New York farmers. This year 52 stores will highlight New York items by using special signage that boasts the Pride of New York logo, making it easy for customers to recognize which produce and products are locally grown or made.”

About Pride of New York: The Pride of New York Program was developed to promote and support the sale of agricultural products grown and food products processed within New York State. The Program’s growing membership now includes farmers and processors, retailers, distributors, restaurants and related culinary and support associations all working together to bring you wholesome, quality New York State products.
